Reading in The News today about Sanchez getting cut was this which I found mind boggling

Teams looking for backup catching, such as the Giants, aren't interested in Castro at his $2.5 million salary

It doesn't surprise me or probably anyone here to read that team officials are frustrated with him but if Castro can't be bothered then why the feck should I be?....I don't want a guy like that on the team , he can't even be motivated to be the backup , apparently he has no interest in being the full time catcher either so screw him.

This is all so strange. The "Mets officials" first say that Castro is unmotivated and doesn't really want to play. Then they say they'd replace him if they could trade him, but of course, they can't trade him, because he's an overpaid fat load who doesn't want to play.

Is this their way of motivating him? It sure doesn't seem like a way to pump up his trade value.

I'd prefer Castro to Pudge, I don't expect much out of either this year, even though i've liked Castro in the past, but I think pudge is completely washed up and he has reputation of not being good with pitchers (hey if the "Castro is lazy" rumors can fly so can those.)

It's not so strange when you consider that the statements are from un-named officials, and doesn't come in a quotes so much as a summary or a paraphrase. If that's truly the organization's position, it's certainly not their public position. If you put a mic to Jerry or Omar's face today, I don't think either would say, "I'd like another catcher, but not while we're still paying Castro, and the fact is that he's a shiftless load and God knows who we're going to dump him on."

The reporter did his work and got the story behind the official position. That sucks for the Mets (and hopefully there's somebody trying to tighten up the ship). But good for him. Sadly, this is what the brutal honesty some might demand looks like.

As far as Pudge not being good with pitchers, I think his rep with pitchers has gone up when he's hitting and down when he's not. I don't know what to believe.

I agree with that. One thing I think Rodriguez could bring to the Mets is leadership, my abiding memory of the guy is his run with the Marlins in 2003. Of course leadership might go hand in hand with good hitting ect.

Bernazard supposedly was quoted in the papers in PR saying the Mets would like Pudge but can't trade their current guys. It's hard to say whether that was taken out of context or meant more as a compliment to Pudge mangled in translation.

I don't see employers lining up for Pudge or Pedro. Interesting, huh?
