Guest attgig Guests Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Maybe this is old news, but this is the first time I read this:http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/jon_heyman/02/23/scoop.monday/index.html?eref=writers]Castro's stock plummeted in the eyes of the Mets when he declined a chance to becoming the starter a winter ago, seemingly because he preferred being a backup and having more days off.if that's true... *shakes head*... I don't know what to say to that if that's actually true.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I don't remember it like that or remember that being said , I do remember the job being his for the taking but he got injured again and IIRC some questions being asked about his injury .
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 There's probably a lot more nuance to it than that, probably health-wise, but it does support my general contention that Castro is too unreliable to be great even as a back-up.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 never mind that he's too unreliable to be great.he's too unreliable even to be adequate.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 His is the cry of reserves afraid of being exposed by regular play for years: (I first heard it over 40 years ago)"bench me or trade me"Later
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I actually do remember that Castro story. It was Phil Linz who told Yogi "Play me or keep me."
