I forgot to mention. I met a nice couple of 50-somethings from Westchester --- Met fans in Yankee territory --- on my honeymoon. He claims he has a neighbor who's a construction foreman who has a tile from the exterior in his basement play room, among other Metsorobilia he shoulldn't have. The story goes that construction workers pocketed a bunch and agreed (poorly) that they would never speak about it.

It may be a bunch of crap, but he seemed really shy about telling me, like I was going to tell people on the internet or something.

Good article from Lukas , Meisel sounds like he will try and accommodate just about anything to get a sale , which of course is his job. A shame about the Agee marker.

The Agee marker is a little weird if I may say so.

It's the wrong color and the wrong font. If someone really wanted one you could probably replicate it in an hour with a hunk of concrete and some spraypaint.

Prior to the 1988 season my friend Dave and I decided to buy 2 season seats.

We called Shea and were invited to come out and take a tour with about 20 other people who were also buying seats to check out the views from those seats that were available.

We settled on section 18 in the loge on the third base side. During the tour the guy leading us was telling us about the new additions to Shea that had been or were being completed that off-season. One of the 'improvements' the guide pointed out, was the addition of the LF and RF umpire spots on the scoreboard for the postseason. My friend and I looked at each other and sharing the same thought he said 'Oy, Kenahora'.

They did make the payoffs that season and we had a great time in those seats that year, but it was quite some time before those lights were lit again.

And how does that guy Meisel possibly think he is the only one who notices the red lights on the out-of-town scoreboard indicating which teams are batting? Those were like some of the first things I would ever show anyone on heir first trip to Shea. How to read the OoTS and tell the National League Standings by the order of the team pennants that ring the stadium top. Where are those flags by the way? I think they replaced all of those with American Flags right after 9/11.

Yes, they did.

It seems kind of silly that a professional athlete would need a ride from the bullpen to the pitcher's mound. They don't shuttle the left fielder from the dugout to his position. Seeing a guy jog in has much more dramatic impact than having him arrive in a little cartoon car.

They were using those things when I first started following the Mets, but I don't recall when they stopped. And I don't know when they started, either. Anyone?

I don't know when they stopped using the 'cap cars' but I do know that did replace them with regular cars. They'd have some local dealer give them a Nissan painted with the Mets logo and pinstripes. Such a disappointment to see those after becoming so attached to the golfcarts.

I think I read that teams throughout the league stopped the process of chauffering the relief pitchers to the mound due to insurance issues.
