TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I shat on him a couple of weeks ago saying that if he was going to be a stud that he would be better than he was...but I'll eat my words after tonight's performance. He has had a really great 3 game stretch.Harold Reynolds called it tonight on the postgame when he said that Pelfrey and Schneider were developing a really good rhythm:Pelfrey in 2008 when Schneider is catching him:2-2, 3.51ERA, 41IP, 44H, 18R, 16ER, 16BB, 27K, 1HRPelrey in 2008 when Schneider is not catching him:0-4, 5.28ERA, 29IP, 39H, 17R, 17ER, 14BB, 11K, 3HRSchneider can't hit for shit, but it looks like he may be doing some good for Mike.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I think Pelfrey is also responding to possibly losing his spot to Vargas that time when Pedro came back , however likely that was to happen or not.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 One thing that Cohen said last night that was pretty alarming: Pelphrey does not have a major league win on normal rest. All of his wins have come with extra rest.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Yes, but I think he's had some good pitching performances on regular rest."Wins" are a fun stat, but they don't really mean a whole lot. Pelfrey pitched great last night, and didn't get a win.For a while now, my hope for Mike Pelfrey was that he'd find himself, and despite his shaky beginnings, would become a quality dependable starter. (Craig Swan and Mike Scott are Mets pitchers who did this.)I'm allowing myself to be optimistic that we're seeing that happen now.
