And tell him that his interview with Rachel Robinson was lame! He should have thought of some questions before she got to the booth! ("Have you discussed the Jackie Robinson Rotunda with Duke Snider?" Sheesh!)BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!And Keith! Casual fans go to ten or fifteen games a year? Are you on cocaine again??BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!And Ron! Too lazy and overpaid to show up on Jackie Robinson Night?BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Also tell Gary he's way overdoiing it with the productive out thing.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Go back to radio, Gary. Please.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 I've got no issue with Gary.No denying that he's got a face for radio but other than that.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 This seemed to be going in a different direction.Anyhow, any chance Gary is hitting the "sliderulers need to look up from their spreadsheets and understand the game" because now he's teamed with two swinging swanky-lifestyle ex-jocks and wants to suck up to them? Because I'm thinking he maybe subconsciously is.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 He has the emotion for radio that has been stripped now that he's on TV. I miss hearing him yell, "IT'S OUTTA HERE!!!"
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 He yells it all the time. Every time a ball is outa there.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Last night it really struck me when I tuned into the radio for a few innings and Howie and Wayne started discussing the merits of leaving Pelfrey pitch the seventh inning, it was great , then I go back to the TV and Gary and Keith are yapping about something other than the game or baseball......
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I just think he's enamored with the productive out, and there is a streak of antistatheadism in him regardless of his partners. Now maybe his partners help bring it out, but I think it's there. Last night whern Churchie bunted my first thought was "I'll betcha Gary Cohen is telling everyone not here how great a move that was."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I think, if I remember right, Gary said that Church was probably bunting on his own (kind of implying that it would have been stupid for Willie to have called a bunt there) and then softened the criticism (such as it was) by saying that it wasn't a sacrifice attempt, but that Church was trying to bunt for a hit.I enjoy Keith, Gary, and Ron a lot. I don't think my enjoyment stems from their broadcasting skills but from the amount of Mets history and experience they bring to the booth. If I was a Nationals or Brewers fan watching the game on MLB Extra Innings I might very well rank the Mets crew with the boors and louts who do the games from San Diego or Miami. (Well, they'd surely finish above the San Diego guys, but I'd probably think they were a bunch of provincial jerks nonetheless.)

I thought the SNY broadcast was excellent in 2006 and has gotten worse each year. I think it may have to do with them being something new and fresh starting out, and now maybe they're trying to gear themselves more towards the FSNish demographic. I still think they do a better than average job of talking about the game, they just don't do it as completely as they did that first year.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Gary does seem more and more like the nerd who's grateful to have been allowed to hang out with the cool kids.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Yes, true. I guess I should have said that it's becoming quite apparent.
