Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Various Afflecks combine to create a well-acted (Casey) and well-directed (Ben) drama involving abducted kids, low-rent relatives, sleazy criminals, and crooked cops. Also with Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris, it's from the same author who was the source of 'Mystic River' and involves similar seedy South Boston neighborhoods and characters while managing to not once mention the Red Sox.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I liked it a lot. Amy Ryan was great but her friend was the scariest person I've seen in a film in a long time. Weakest part was Morgan Freeman.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I haven't seen this movie, but Mystic River is more of a Charlestown film. At least that would be logical since Charlestown is on the Mystic River and Southie is not. The author Dennis Lehane actually set it in a fictitious neighborhood called Buckingham which he saw as an amalgam of all of Boston's tough, white neighborhoods - Charlestown, Dorchester, Southie, and Allston. But Hollywood just seems to love South Boston even if they don't know where it is.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 This one was specifically centered in Dorchester.
