bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I'm visiting Las Vegas. I went to a sports book today (Mandalay Bay--very nice) and put down $20 on the Mets to win the World Series. I did it because I think they are quite capable of winning, getting 8 to 1 is more than I expected (especially because the odds will shorten if they get Santana), and as a symbol of support and confidence in my team.Regardless of my rationale, do you think that I wasted $20 (ignore the fact that they have my money for 10 months)?
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Right now, this team does not have a 12.5% chance of winning the WS.That said, I would have done exactly as you, and for exactly the same reasons. What were the odds for, say, the NL pennant? Or NL East?
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Was there a few weeks ago and got my annual $20 ticket. Wifey bought her father, a Bostonian, a ticket with the BoSox to win. That, I believe, was 4-1.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 The Mets and Cubs are both the NL favorite at 4-1 to win the NL and both are 8-1 to win the WS.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 With Santana, the odds on the Mets winning the WS went from 8-1 to 5-1.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 5-1 is a great price, I'll be having a bit of that.
Guest attgig Guests Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 20 to win 140, when they're probably the favorite to get to the WS? you did good. you did good.
