Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Harry has scouted for the Mets since 1967, and says this year (at 80) might be his last.In his early days, he found such players as Tim Foli, Ed Herrmann, Mike Lum, Tom House, Bob Apodaca and Dennis Gilbert. But his biggest impact was the late seventies/early eighties, when he became their main crosschecker, leading them to pull the string on (brace yourselves) Wally Backman, Gregg Jefferies, Darryl Strawberry, Lenny Dykstra, Mike Scott, Kevin Mitchell, Mookie Wilson, Dwight Gooden, Rick Aguilera and Roger McDowell. While it's not as common in these days to give a scout credit with a "discovery," per se, Harry scouted them all. His son, Bob, scouts for the Mets as well.
