This just boggles my mind. It's hopefully complete and utter bullshit, but the mere thought that a) the Mets would think Heilman for Fuentes was a good idea, and that "losing" Scott Schoeneweis and the remaining 2 years on his contract would be a bad idea, is utterly insane to me.

Heilman, 29 YO (arb eligible for the first time in 2008)
86 IP, 3.03 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 63 K, 20 BB

Fuentes, 32 YO ($3.5M in 2008, then FA)

Schowenweis, 34 YO ($7.2M left on contract through 2009)
59 IP, 5.03 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 41 K, 28 BB

So Heilman & Fuentes in terms of performance are kind of a push, but the fact that Heilman is a) younger, cheaper and c) under our control through 2010 would seem to tilt the scale heavily in his favor. Schowenweis, meanwhile, a) sucked big hairy moosecock last year, is old and c) is way overpaid. We should be begging teams to take him off our hands for a bag of balls.

Again, the above rumor is probably complete horse manure, but just having it out there in the ether gets me excercised.

Saw that one too. I'd be interested in Fuentes as a complement to Heilman, but a straight-up trade would be of no benefit. If we can't find a 200 IP starter, Heilman would be extremely difficult to part with.

I could see the Mets insisting on Schoeneweis getting thrown in, but certainly not the other way around.

No.

Three hitters (Johnson, Crosby and Schneider) who hit under .240 last year. Add Castillo's aversion to doubles, triples and HRs and an aging Delgado and you're looking at one weak-ass lineup. Even Omar I think would see it as folly.

One thing that makes wonder about the logic of the guy that invented this WATP is...The Mets have 3 lefty relievers in: Feliciano, Schoeneweiss and Wagner...and they are "thin" in RH relievers...so why would we trade our only reliable RH reliever, for another fickle lefty?

I can remember the Benitez trade, but that was really two trades -- Mets/Dodgers and quick turnaround for Charles Johnson to the Orioles for Benetez. AFAIK, the Orioles and Dodgers did not exchange players.

A truly three-sided trade is next to impossible to set up, even for minor leaguers, and when you're dealing with Reyes, Haren, and Santana, I can't believe the website reporting it didn't think it was crazy to consider it.

It ranks up with the classic "Yogi Berra for Tom Haller" trade hoax of 1961. That was deliberately concocted by a group of sportswriters (notably Stan Isaacs). No one believed that one at first until the kicker -- that Berra was being traded to manage the Giants. Isaacs added that to the hoax in order to make it even more absurd, since the idea of Berra managing seemed ridiculous to the sportswriters (Yogi was primiarly known as a clown). Isaacs later claimed that the reason Berra became Yankee manager was that the hoax made the Yankees look at him differently, as a potential manager.
