Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 The thread that tracks Mets and Met prospects who have no contract right now, and so could disappear forever at any time.2007--2008 Mets Major and Minor League Free AgentsBlue=Major League Free AgentOrange=Minor League Free AgentStarting PitchersRe-SignedStill on MarketSigned Away/ RetiredTom Glavine(2008: Atlanta)
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Chad Hermansen's listed twice.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Oh, and the Reds just signed Jon Adkins to a minor league deal.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Not even listed. Must've been cut loose or something.I'll update tomorrow.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Thought I saw where Williams was going to play in Japan.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 And I think I heard at the end of last season that Conine was going to retire rather than seek a 2008 contract .Later
Guest sharpie Guests Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Shouldn't Marlon Anderson be there in the signed column?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I guess so.Merging several lists, tabling, and posting at 1:35 isn't my strong suit.I'll update at noonish.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 OK, updating. I'll move Conine maybe when there's some act of finality to his retirememt.Naa, I'll move him now.2007--2008 Mets Major and Minor League Free AgentsBlue=Major League Free AgentOrange=Minor League Free AgentStarting PitchersRe-SignedStill on MarketSigned Away/ RetiredTom Glavine(2008: Atlanta)
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Also, Chip Ambres signed with San Diego.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 That's right. That'll cost us a game in the standings right there.

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 weren't Brett Harper and Ambiorix Concepcion touted prospects at one point?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Depends on who is touting. Concepcion made the 40-man roster after one good year in Brooklyn meant needing to protect him from the Rule V. But he's been slow to progress since then. He's not a lost cause, but he's had trouble putting together a full seeason, and he's been passed by other outfield prospects.Harper's what he always was --- a minor league slugger who regularly slugs .500 but leaves scouts wondering if there are too many holes in his swing to translate that to big league performance, and if he doesn't really have a position. Nobody likes to experiment at first, because it's too easy to find a major leaguer with a history of production that you can park there. Harper is a lot like Craig Brazell, who just got released by the Royals (the Royals!) after hitting 39 homers in 135 minor league games last year, after previously giving a similar jerkaround to Calvin Pickering.I mean, how married can a team be to the likes of Doug Meintkiewicz and Ross Gload!?Somebody besides Japan has to give these guys a chance.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 The Mets cut loose Johnny Estrada, Juan Padilla, and Ben Johnson tonight.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I'm working on an update at home, but Marcelo Perez got gobbled up by Detroit --- in a huge vaccuming of minor league free agents as they desperately try to re-load their system after dealing off so many prospects --- and seeming Met-for-life Mike DiFelice signed with the Devil Rays.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
