nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 ]yeah, i was confused by UMDB which has the following incorrect data: Quote: Aaron Shawn Estes Born: February 18, 1973 at San Francisco, Cal. Throws: Right Bats: Left Height: 6.02 Weight: 195 i saw "right left" and since i knew he threw lefty i assumed he batted righty without looking too closely to see that they had both wrong (i assumed they were just reversed) baseball reference lists him as a switch hitter but then when i click "splits" it shows 582 plate appearences as a righty (440 vs. righties and 142 vs. lefties) which is his correct total. so i'm not sure what to think.so which is it? can anyone confirm a shawn estes left-handed at-bat?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 My guess is that when he was young and his arm was precious, his team forced him to bat lefthanded to protect his arm, as some organizations do. As he grew into a mediocrity, team's were less strict. He yanked a homer down the line against Roger Clemens, and if there was anybody you were going to bat lefthanded against, it was him.So I withdraw my comment. Sources may have him switchie, but not my observations.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 i've already written to baseball reference for clarification
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I thought about the Clemens home run and in my minds eye Estes is hitting from the right side, he yanked it down the third base side IIRC.
