]Mets looking at Odalis Perez?

Wednesday, Jan 23, 2008 8:10 am EST

According to the New York Post, the New York Mets, who have been unable to deal for a front-line starter, also are reportedly talking to free-agent pitcher Odalis Perez, who was 8-11 for the Royals last season. The nine-year veteran is 66-70 lifetime with a 4.21 ERA.

Perez would probably be a good insurance policy to have should the inevitable injury knock one of the starters out of the rotation for an extended period. Almost certain to be an upgrade over Lima, Gonzalez, Ho Park, and Williams that have filled that role over the past two seasons.

i like how they post his 8-11 W-L record (which looks ok with the lowly royals) as well as his lifetime 4.21 ERA but fail to mention his recent history- ERAs of 4.56, 6.20, & 5.57 the past 3 years while making only 19, 20, & 26 starts thanks to injuries.

Plus he's was always one of the craziest characters in the Benson Bunch.

For getting the chance to be this year's Aaron Sele, I wouldn't have a big issue with him.
