"Reyes, Gomez AND Pelfrey?Might as well throw in Mr. Met and the Home Run Apple, too.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 I might do that, really to me that deal is Reyes for Santana, the rest are players to haggle over.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 You'd have to at least think about a deal like that. But then who do you replace Reyes with?
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Gayrod!(not in favor of this)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Not in favour of Gayrod or trading Reyes for Santana?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Well, that deal does include a shortstop coming over from Minnesota.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 No. Absolutely not. That is a horrendous idea.I'd give up Gomez and Pelfrey in deals, but I would never trade Reyes. He just needs to go to detox.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Trading everyday players for pitchers can often come back to bite you, due to the greater volitility of a pitcher's career (higher injury risk), and certainly trading 3 promising young players for 1 veteran arm on a 1-year deal makes the deal even more ridiculous. However, if they were to include Pat Neshek, and make the trade contingent on the Mets being able to sign Santana to a long-term deal, then i'd do it. Bartlett is a great defensive SS (for whatever that is worth), with decent speed, who showed a little better bat this year at age 27; Neshek (also 27) was one of the best setup guys in the majors; and Santana is one of the 5 best pitchers in BB. But i think the point is moot because Santana is going to free agency, so he'd be a 1-year rental. Giving up reyes in that situation is just plain nuts.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 When you put it like that Vic it doesn't seem such a great idea, you would have to sign him alright, Santana has no trade clauses too.]ohan Santana p4 years/$39.75M (2005-08) * signed extension 2/05, avoided arbitration ($6.8M-$5M) * 05:$5.5M, 06:$9M, 07:$12M, 08:$13.25M * may earn award bonuses o $25,000 for All-Star selection, 2nd in AL MVP vote or 3rd in CY vote o $50,000 each for Gold Glove, AL MVP, LCS MVP or 2nd in CY vote o $100,000 each for WS MVP, Cy Young award * limited no-trade clause 2006-08 o may block trades to 3 clubs in 05, 8 in 06, 10 in 07 & 12 in 08 o full no-trade clause for 2007-08 with top 3 in CY vote in 06 or 07 * 1 year/$1.6M (2004), lost arbitration $2.45M * 1 year/$0.335M (2003) * agent: Peter Greenberg * ML service: 6.122Will have a full no trade clause if he finishes in the top three for CY Young, if not then it's 12 teams for 08.
