Home runs is one of the very few career offensive categories in which Tony Gwynn would not be the correct answer.

I'll guess Dave Winfield.

Nevin hit a bunch. Gwynn was around forever and even though he wasn't a home run hitter, when you are around that long you are going to accumulate some numbers -- see Kranepool, Ed, namesake of forum.

But there were some guys early on like Nate Colbert who piled up some numbers in horrid mustard colored uniforms. I remember that baseball card of him setting some sort of record for rbi in a doubleheader or something like that. I'll guess Colbert just to be different.

Nettles! But it was the 9th...and do you know the Met-content?

P.S. Props to Mets Guy in Michigan for the correct answer.

I thought about Colbert as he was a devastating hitter for a time, but would have discarded him as having too short a Padre career. Turns out he beats Winfield's total by 11 HRs.

The cool trivia question I remember about Colbert was that he held (and probably still does) the record for having the highest pct of his team's RBIs in a season.
-- In 1972 he had 111 for a team that [u:de8e4a2635]only totaled 452[/u:de8e4a2635]. No other Padre had as many as 50 that season.

I, uh, said it was the ninth. No, I don't recall Met content.

More fake Padres trivia: Who replaced Jackie Robinson 'J.R.' Cooper as manager of the San Diego Padres?

Oops. Somehow I read it as the eighth. Whoops.

Met content = split-second appearance by Doc, on tv, pitching at Shea.
