Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Orlando Hernandez' stolen base last night was his second of the year, and third as a Met. It brings the Mets within one of a .500 success rate all-time for stolen base attempts by pitchers, a pretty lousy record on the face of it, but probably not so bad, considering most steal attempts by pitchers are actually broken plays.Who is in first place all time for succssful steals by a Met pitcher? With how many?Who just got knocked by Hernandez from second to third? With how many?Who is the Mets Pitcher Caught Stealing Champ? With how many?
Guest sharpie Guests Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Seaver has most steals I'm pretty sure.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 First half of the first question. Correct.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 The list (for successful ones anyway) was on last night's telecast;Seaver has 4, and Frisella and someone else had 2.Seaver was also the last pitcher anywhere to steal one in 2 consecutive starts. It was his rookie year and he was 22 at the time.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I think Sid Fernandez also had 2.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Sorry to be redundant; I had the San Diego feed.I show Frisella and Hernandez as the only ones to have had two. Hernandez, as stated, has now hit three, and chases inmmortality. That's four in a row for the Metskies. They did their most successful pitcher-running during the Hodges and Johnson years. The only two-time loser is Roger Craig, both from 1962.Our four pitcher-thefts in a row bring the franchise to 18 steals in 37 attempts lifetime.

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Sid Fernandez? Whoever was catching should be ashamed.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 At that point in the season Sid was in a three-way tie for second on the team with 1 stolen base (tied with HoJo and Backman, 3 behind Dykstra).
