Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 Garrett it is!!Not just a less-than obvious name but also it was the size of the margin that struck me as I was looking at this stuff!!All of which leads to the thought - spoke here at least once by one of ira's past identities (which is why I thought he'd be the one to guess it) - that in a more Sabermetric age Garrett would have been a more appreciated player. Plus, if you were to stick 'Red' into not only a more Sabermetric age but also a more weight-lifting and "nutrition" aware age he could have been a real monster since his main drawback was that he finishes 21st out of that group of 30 in "Isolated Slugging" avg (diff between BA & Slg).Ahh, what could have been!1WAYNE GARRETT.1112Magadan.0993Strawberry.0964Milner.0945Mazzilli.0936THernandez.0906THarrelson.0906THoJo.0909Hundley.08310TStaub.08210TStearns.08212TPiazza.07712TSwoboda.07714Alfonzo.07515TBackman.07015TCarter.07017Kingman.06818Agee.06719Grote.06520Boswell.06221TMcReynolds.05921TC. FWIW, one memorist at UMDB suggests that lifting weights might have been an issue with garrett even back in his playing days. That is, Seaver wasn't fond of Garrett because Garrett was a warning track guy who wasn;t interested in becoming more than that.
