Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 If they were sure about El Duque by the weekend you could send Vargas down now and get some other spare part up here, but I suspect they're not sold on that yet.Or I guess you could just use Vargas out of the pen for now.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Roster move coming down the line shortly (Ruben back to AAA?) as Pelfrey will probably get the extra start with the Doubleheader this Friday in Philadelphia.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Not an easy call. The Mets probably don't want to shrink their pen, but Gotay's earned the right to stick around. How many options does he have left?
Guest iramets Guests Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 smg58 wrote: How many options does he have left? This isn't the right question. Options refers to "years in which one's options are exercised." Since he's been sent down and called up so far this year, as far as I know he has already used up 2007 as one of his option years. Nothing that happens from this point in 2007 will affect the number of options he has available to him.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Gotay is actually out of options, but I still think he gets demoted, unless Willie is OK with using Valentin/Gotay/Easley in the OF as necessary, and demoting Ledee.Your other Met players with options are Joe Smith and Carlos Gomez.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Easley has been banged up so the Mets could disable him.Don't forget the possibility of a suspension for PLD. If it's just one game, maybe the Mets could "appeal" and then withdraw the appeal before one of the two games on Friday as Paulie wouldn't play in both anyway (probably the day game as it follows a night game). DeFelice or Sandy Alomar, Jr. are hitting well for NO.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 You don't get to replace a suspended player. You just play a man short on that day(s).

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 I don't think they'd make a roster move if it was a one-day suspension. Multiple days, probably.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Be an interesting decision ... how long they're willing to risk going with only 1 catcher.1 day maybe is my guess. Anything more than that you've got to get someone up here. Not even sure who the call-up would be (might depend on who's on the 40-man) or who the emergency guy would be from the current crew if the unthinkable did happen and there was no backup on the bench.

Apparently, Willie hasn't devoted a moment's thought to this question, either.
