Guest Mark Healey Guests Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Al Cohn wants to fix stuffhttp://www.gothambaseball.com/news/1178717394.phpDoes he?(P.S. Al loves feedback, good or bad or otherwise, so feel free to fire waway)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I think Al Cohn is being unfair to Green, yes his errors have looked glaring on the tele,I would have signed up for this from Green before the season started, would he be any better with the glove at first?.Delgado missed one week of spring training IIRC,could be wrong on that.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Ditto to what irish said.Put Green at first and sit Delgado? In the first week of May?Of course because the Mets are only tied for first place. Makes pefect sense.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I'd consider juggling their lineup slots for a while: let Green hit higher in the lineup and Delgado lower, but benching Delgado doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Guest Mark Healey Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 http://www.gothambaseball.com/news/1179421564.phpThat's my take on the Milledge situation...
Guest martin Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 couple typos, suberb and sympton, "won" instead of own. performnace.the mets have white fans i guess, and they feel like they should say something. but i wonder if anyone would care if they said nothing. i can't imagine many people would mind.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Agreed.But it's "superb", not "suberb".
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Is it true, does anybody recall, that the Mets received no journalistic criticism when they re-signed Mota?
Guest martin Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 right. thats why i pointed it out. its not sympton or performnace either.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Mark, are you suggesting that the various news papers in town used older pictures of Milledge because with his braids it made him look "gangsta",I'm a bit confused as to what him wearing braids has got to do with anything, did he cut them because he didn't want to look "gangsta",perhaps the Mets urged him to do so?....I'm fairly certain that Wally at Newsday hammered the mets for signing Mota.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I imagine that was the most readily available photo of Milledge representing himself as a rap figure.

Guest Mark Healey Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Thnaks for the edit, guys, errors fixed. In my haste to get it up I must have missed those. As for the Mota stuff, the Daily News didn't raise any objections when Mota was signed, and Matthews always seems to be criticizing the Mets for something, so maybe I missed that.

Is there another reason I'm not aware of?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Well, another reason would be that it was the most readily available photo of Milledge representing himself as a rap figure. It's a publicity shot for the recordings, right? It's not like there aren't dozens of available file photos of Milledge with braids in a baseball uniform.
Guest Mark Healey Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 It's editorializing, IMO.Just another example of some of the media in this town taking every opportunity to pile on the Mets.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I understand it's your opinion. I'm trying to see if the facts you base your opinion on hold up. There is another credible possible reason. And even as I'm discussing it, you're claiming that you're unaware of one.As for editorializing, most of what you're criticizing is editorial content --- rather than news --- isn't it?I mostly agree with you. But I wouldn't expect the NYC tabloids to make any other choices. Demonizing is a big part of what they do.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I don't think it has anything to do with the Mets. If there was a budding rapper in the Yankees org who used the word "Ho" they'd be all over him too, just as unfairly. The issue here which I think you get to amid too much other stuff is the surpression of free expression from the media, your employer and your city councilman.

Guest martin Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 i dont get it, the story is about milledge's rap business, so the photos used are him as a rapper. makes sense. maybe i am missing something.
