I'm starting this early because it has some bigness to it.

  • They need to show some sharpness before the season starts or I'm going to hit somebody
  • Carlos Delgado is back with the team and maybe playing.
  • Lastings Milledge is travelling iwth thie team, despite being injured, and is strying to wrestle that last spot on the roster.
  • Ambiorix Burgos pitched himself back into the picture yesterday and Randolph may want to throw him two days in a row to give him a chance to knock out Sele or Park
  • I'm thinking wherever Wright hits today is where he opens the season

John Maine, Lino Urdaneta, and Aaron Sele scheduled to go today.

Tomorrow is Scott Schoeneweis, Pedro Felicano, Billy Wagner, and Aaron Heilman.

By my count (and suspect math) the Mets are averaging 3.87 rpg this spring, which sucks ass but happens to be pretty close to what they averaged in september last year after ringing up scores of around 5.5rpg all year until September.

This team scares the crap out of me

Maine has very much a B-Team thing happening behind him. Maybe C+.

1) Newhan, lf
2) Chavez, cf
3) Easley, ss (!)
4) Velentin, 2b
5) Franco, 1b
6) Tatis, 3b (2007 debut)
7) Johnson, rf
8) Castro, c

Newhan leads off with a Ballantine blast and Maine answers by getting the side in the bottom of the inning, including a whiff of James Loney, the best player out there for Los Angeles, also starting scrubeenies. But cleanup hitter Matt Kemp got the run back leading off the second with a bomb of his own.

There we are, onesies.

Twosies midway through five.

Mets outhitting the Dodgers 6-3.

So not a big game.

Jeez. Newhan is 3-for-3 with 2 HRs and 4 RS today (basically Moises Alou's whole spring output in 6 innings).

Rastro has a grand salami and its 9-2 Mets

The Mets have whipped out the kablammo sticks, albeit against non-roster Dodger B-teamers.

I read a notes section last week in which someone listed the "most bizarre headline of the week" as the Mets signing Fernando Tatis.

Fernando Tatis has a three-run homer.

I completely missed the Tatis signing. I think there is a reasonable possibility that he will suck less than Julio Franco and could be a passable RH power threat off the bench.

Julio had a tough second half, and I don't think he's a really good fit for this roster, but I don't where the "Julio sucks" movement started.

It's a hard job, and he did better at it than I thought he would.

Tatis had a great year at age 24 in 1999, but his AB totals in the years since have been 324-145-381-175-56, what happened?
