Carp giveth and Carp taketh away. Several annuals that rate minor leaguers (BP, BA) mention that Carp needs some serious work on defense, but they also say he has the potential to be a good power hitter.

Park's visa problem has apparently been squared away so he'll start on Wednesday.
And El Ducky is on tap for his first real start on Thursday.

I know I shouldn't get excited about a Park start and I'm not but it will be interesting to see how his spring goes....I read recently that he's 35 games over .500 in the national league.....

Park was a very nice pitcher when he first showed up in LA; he just hasn't been recently.

Maybe it was injuries, maybe the ballpark in Texas was responsible, maybe the pressure of his big contract got to him, or maybe he's just plain lost it.
But the team that went through not only 13 different starters last year but 10 of them before the end of May shouldn't be tossing aside potential help.

Today's Daily News has the following quote about that;

]Franco, Alou and Alomar all crossed the plate on a bases-loaded double by minor-leaguer Mike Carp in the fourth inning. "I just knew there was about 180 years out there," Alou joked.

I hope he can still hit better than he can count.

I think all of the above. The change in leagues and ballparks probably accounted for what happened his first season in Texas, then the injuries started, and at some point the confidence went poof.

But there's a chance he could get "it" back for a bargain price, so there's certainly no harm in giving him a look.
