It's weird. It usually goes to new stadiums, and since Shea isn't a classic like Fenway or Wrigley, it gets passed over. Though Yankee Stadium did hold one in '77*, so it seems odd they pick it again. It also will delay Citi Field being chosen; I don't think MLB will want to have it in New York again for several years.*I was on the field with the players, BTW.I don't think it's a matter of Shea getting passed over, it's a matter of the Mets not wanting the game. Teams have to apply for the game, and of course having a new stadium weighs heavily. But I remember a story once where the Mets said they weren't interested, saying it was too much work for the home team.Personally, I love the All-Star Game. I got to attend the workout day/home run derby in Cleveland in 1997 -- before it was a big deal -- and have been to the FanFests in Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Not to stop you from hating Harazin, but the not wanting the game goes back into the Cashen era.I'm sure there'll be one in the new crib but it never bothered me much that it hasn't spun this way in a while.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Why hate Harazin anyhow for what he said in 1988 when he wasn't calling the shots himself until 1992?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Because Harazin was the business guy by the late '80s and he had a big say in turning down the ASG.Also, I can be small about these things.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Wilpon confirmed to reporters yesterday that the Mets have applied to the league for the right to host the 2011 All-Star game
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 One vote to change thread name to 2011 All-Star Game.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 I don't know how we're going to keep this thread active that long.
