I'm going to question one part of that article. I think an increased walk rate makes sense when you become more of a matchup specialist.

When there's a runner on second and/or third that you're brought in to prevent from scoring, singles kill. Your job is to get the out, but the secondary part of the job is to not give up a base hit. With the tying or go-ahead run on in late innings, that open base is your friend, allowing you to go for the corners.

I'm not saying those 5.79 bb/9 with Cincinnati are good. But they need to be seen in part as a byproduct of the .133 batting average he yielded to lefthanders.

I think the complicated side deal where half the team's prospects go for Dontrelle Willis or Danny Haren is what's been holding things up. Word is the Mets have refused to include Bobby Parnell in any deal.
