Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 From my latest SABR e-mail:SABR members will lose remote access to ProQuest Historical Newspapers and Heritage Quest on December 31, 2006.That's the best part of my membership, bar none.
Guest Mr. Zero Guests Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Why is that?meaning the cancellation.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I'm guessing that's how Edgy posts stories from every newspaper you've never heard of across the country.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 sabr sez proquest wants to make itself more exclusive (& prolly more expensive) than they are currently. It will still be available to check at libraries & such. But overall, it blows goats.SABR also seems to have lost its discount deal with paper of Record (Sporting News archives) which also is a shame, tho that's worth your $$ at 75 or whatever a year (was 50 I think). PQ had the NYTimes, LA Times, W Post and Tribune archived, as well as a few others, and the formatting and searching worked well.I've been doing an awful lot of researching and printing for future reference.

This is about archival searches. What was saiid about Mickey Lolich when he was introduced to the Mets media*. Stuff like that.* "He takes a size 48 uniform shirt, that's even bigger than Rube Walker's," somebody whispered, referring to the paunchy pitching coach. "And he takes a size 40 pants." Also discussed was how Lolich took care of his arm --- treatments of scalding hot water.

Guest KC Guests Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 If anyone is interested in a home subscription to The New York Times, Ithink that their digital archives are available as part of the subscription now.I haven't looked into it too much because I've been using the SABR site still, but I'll let youse now in the coming weeks.
Guest KC Guests Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I called for the halibut, it is included (which is a pretty good deal).
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I've already noticed, in my college library access to ProQuest, a lot of old NY Times stories are blocked.
