Member of the Mets family, Buddy Kerr passes away

]11/11/2006 6:27 PM ET Former All-Star SS Kerr dead at 84 Longtime Mets special assistant passes away SportsTicker Buddy Kerr, an All-Star shortstop in the 1940s, died last Tuesday. He was 84. The New York Mets issued a statement on Saturday, announcing that Kerr died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital after a short illness. Kerr worked for the Mets from 1975-96 as a special assignment scout. "Buddy's loyalty and dedication to the Mets were unmatched," Mets owner Fred Wilpon said in a statement. "He was a true gentleman." Kerr played for the New York Giants and Boston Braves from 1943-51 and hit .249 in 1,067 games. He was named to the All-Star team in 1948. Kerr is survived by his wife, Kathleen, along with two sons and two daughters.

His photo was in the Mets yearbook every year for the longest time. And it was always the same photo, never updated for aging. (And he never looked young in those photos either.) It was kind of a reverse Dorian Grey thing: he would age but his picture wouldn't!

It sounds eerie, but it really happens to everybody that way.
