MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 One list of Mets Free Agents I found included the following names: Cliff Floyd Orlando Hernandez Ricky Ledee Steve Trachsel Michael Tucker* Jose Valentin* Chris Woodward* * = have formally filed to become free agents. And we've read that Tom Glavine has a mutual option in his contract, with negotiations reportedly underway to bring him back. Which ones would you want back? Which ones do you think Omar will try to re-sign? Later
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 You're missing Bradford.I read today that Omar wants to talk contracts with Hernandez and Bradford, in addition to Glavine and Wille Randolph.

I also think that Feliciano, Zambrano and Parra (once activated from the 60 day DL) are also eligible. They can be added to the conversation.Hernandez, Oliver, Bradford and Feliciano are the only ones I'd be interested in keeping.Later

Nope, none of them are 6-year players. Now the Mets could (probably will in the case of Zambrano & Parra) cut any or all of them loose thus making them FAs, but none are in position to declare themselves to be one on their own.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 By "Parra," do we mean "Padilla"?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 BTW, Met FA classifications:[u:694c5d99b9]Type A[/u:694c5d99b9] FAsChad Bradford Cliff Floyd Tom Glavine (option) Roberto Hernandez [u:694c5d99b9]Type B[/u:694c5d99b9]Guillermo Mota Orlando HernandezDarren Oliver Jose Valentin- [u:694c5d99b9]Type A free agents[/u:694c5d99b9] yield the signing team's first-round pick (provided it's not in the upper half of the first round) plus a supplemental first-rounder. - [u:694c5d99b9]Type B[/u:694c5d99b9] compensation, previously the signing team's first-round pick (with the same upper-first-round protection), is now just a supplemental first-round choice; as per the new CBA.The losing team still needs to offer arbitration to receive compensation for a departing FA.

Here are his transactions prior to being signed again by the Mets this year:December 16, 2002: Released by the Detroit Tigers. April 3, 2003: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Mets. December 20, 2003: Granted Free Agency. December 21, 2003: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Mets. January 24, 2005: Purchased by the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks (Japan Pacific) from the New York Mets. I believe his having been released and having been a free agent before, and the fact that the Mets signed him for a one-year contract this year means they no longer have an option on his services, unless one was specifically put into this contract. The 6 year rule has nothing to do with his situation. But you may be right on the others.LaterLater
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I've noticed lately that you put Later in your posts twice, why so?...
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Sometimes I post something, think I'm done, then go look for additional stuff elsewhere (like the Feliciano transactions). I find it, come back to the original thread and don't notice I'd already put "Later" in there. So I do it again.Either that, or senility is really kicking in.Thanks for noticing.Uh,....Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 you could just put "Later" as the top line of your signature
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 ]Either that, or senility is really kicking inUm,yeah that's what I was thinking....Earlier.

To make it automatic would defeat the purpose of being friendly.Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 you could be automatically friendly

The 6 year rule has nothing to do with his situation. Sure it does.Players get released all the time, sometimes when they're young and in their early years, sometimes before they even reach the majors. But just because he may have been a FA at one point (or more than one) on account of being cut loose by a team doesn't negate the fact that 6 full seasons are needed before he can declare himself a FA.The Mets control his rights for next year unless they choose otherwise. Probably is arbitration eligible.]you could just put "Later" as the top line of your signatureCan't do that. That's where "Earlier" goes.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 I'm glad to see Feliciano is still under control. It's one less thing to worry about. You can't take a good pen for granted and think you can afford to let a few guys go; ask this year's Indians how that worked. What about Roberto Hernandez?
