I could be out of line here and wrong but I wonder if this shit happens if it's the MFY's playing a series.

I think that's a good point, irish. It'd be nice if the Mets organization put some pressure on Fox to get this shit sorted out. Maybe it IS worth complaining to them, too . . .

I just called and left a pissy message for FOX, explaining how their sitting on their asses is making it increasingly unlikely that I can make the game--if it IS during the day. I also complained about their coverage and referenced the JORDY thing.

Fucking wankers.

I think the calls to MLB are being directed to "Vinny" at Extension 7878.

At least, that's what he told me. He tried to get out of giving me his name or extension when I called this most recent time but that's the info that I got.

I'm going to keep calling. I think I may try asking for Media Relations when I reach the MLB switchboard again.

Just wondering, do you locals think it really rained long and hard enough to call off the game?

I know it didn't here, and we usually get the rain first.

There was reported flooding in Fairfield County CT (the county closest to NY City). Some towns got as much as 4 inches of rain.

Here's what the New York Times is saying:

BEN SHPIGEL wrote:
The teams will play Game 2 tomorrow, an intended off day, at Shea Stadium. Major League Baseball will announce the starting time today; the decision may be affected by winter-like weather conditions in Detroit that could affect Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.

That game is scheduled for tomorrow night, but it could be postponed or moved to a daytime slot. As a result, the Mets and the Cardinals might have to play at night to give Major League Baseball a prime-time postseason game. Otherwise, the second Mets-Cardinals game would most likely be played tomorrow afternoon.

Westchester County is closer to NYC than Fairfield County and being a resident of Fairfield County I noticed lotsa rain but no flooding.

Now just because I didn't notice it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Donald Letterbox's top ten reasons for MLB to drag it feet deciding starting
time for game two in New York:

10) Waiting for Mike and Mad Dog show to start because they have ex-
clusive rights to announce stuff.

I called again, this time asking for media relations and trying to give the guy on the phone the impression I was calling from a media outlet.

He as much as confirmed that the delay was due to the projected snow in Detroit. Said it would be 4 or 8, still no word on when it would be announced.

Called again, purporting to be an angry ticketholder (which I am), no new information, but made the guy try to find out if refunding tickets was an option. After 3 minutes on hold, hung up, tired of waiting.

I encourage everyone to keep calling, even if they're giving you the same info over and over.

How did you give this impression without saying it outright.

So 1 p.m. is ruled out then, huh?

I thought all along it would be 4 or 8.

The decent thing to do would be to just schedule it for 8. That would assure them of at least one prime-time game and if both were played they could do the split thing with FX.

Naturally, there's no reason to think that they'd be inclined to do anything out of decency. But I think that option makes reasonable business sense as well. I don't think there are that many people who are going to watch both games anyway. Despite what Tommy Lasorda's been saying, there are relatively few fans who are going to watch every postseason game, especially those that start in the afternoon during the week. Remember, that 4 p.m. East Coast start will be airing at 1 Pacific.

Okay, so the weather forecast in Detroit is influencing the scheduling of a baseball game in Queens.

Here's the forecast for Detroit:

="National Weather Service"]Friday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 13 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Southwest wind between 6 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Hey, where's Mets Guy in Michigan? Why isn't he updating us with barometric readings and stuff?

Combination of factors -- inflection and speed, word choice, mentioning "my editor," a few other tricks, etc.

How the players spent their day off.

A few of my favorites:

]Jose Valentin Did what he does on every Wednesday night groomed his mustache.

]David Wright Put on his leather bomber jacket and headed to the diner to share an apple pie and a malt with his girl, then caught a movie at the drive-in.

]Albert Pujols Put his full uniform on, spikes and eye black included, and stared at a picture of Tom Glavine for six consecutive hours without blinking.
