Some odd stuff today ...

- Reyes gets thrown out trying to steal second on a foul out to the catcher.
I was disappointed that FOX didn't show one freakin' replay of the slide and
tag - unless my memory is off. Not sure if I've ever seen that before.

- Lou Freakin' Pinella needs the production staff to break out the rule book
and tell him why a runner advances after a player goes into the stands to
catch a foul ball. I think they got the call wrong, but Boo on Lou ... managers
who are lauded as big time winners should know shit like that.

- The Nick Johnson play, he went a long way for that ball. Kearns looked
like it really shook him up.

Fick came right out to play first but Kearns stayed out there for a minute or two longer before getting taken out too.

The Mets shut off all the music, scoreboard animations, stupid "ev'rybody clap yo' hands" etc. after the injury. Notably no Enter Sandman playing. Music returned as they won with Taking Care of Business.

i thought he broke his lower leg, but he broke his femur! eek, that hurts, i think the femur is the biggest fattest strongest bone we gots. he must have really punished his leg to snap that thing.

vidro claims he heard it snap, i bet that wasnt pleasing. i guess that was why he was signaling for help even as he was fielding the ball.

I too was surprised by Wright not stopping at second.

If some blame falls to Wright some should also fall to Manny Acta (who's supposed to be watching the play instead of just running) for not stopping him.

My wife was watching the game with me when Johnson went down and when he rolled over and the lower leg just kind of flopped we both looked at each other and said 'broken femur'

5 years ago when our 7 year old was 2 he broke his femur when our dog, Mookie, ran fullspeed into him. When I picked my son up off the ground his leg from the knee down was just sort of hanging and flopping. We'd thought he'd ripped ligaments in his knee but ultimately it was the femur.

Yup - biggest bone in the body. Our son had to be put in almost a full body cast (from his chest down both legs) to ensure that he kept his hips immobilized. 9 weeks before that cast came off. Ugh.

I don't know if keeping the hips immobile is as much of a concern for an adult so maybe Johnson just gets one leg in a cast. in any case its a nasty, nasty injury.

Usually with a broken bone the idea is to immobilize the next highest joint - which is obviously the hip in this case.
Whatever the case, this isn't going to be a fun time for Mr. Johnson. He's been spooked by injuries during his short career to date.
