Guest Iubitul Guests Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Ok - talk about clutch...In 1982, The Cardinals were losing 3-1 in the sixth inning of game 7, When Keith Hernandez came up with the base loaded. Mex hit a 2 run single to tie the game....In 1986, With the Mets losing 3-0 in the sixth inning of game 7, Mex comes up again with the base loaded, and hits a 2-run single to make it 3-2...
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 If he was really clutch he would have hit grand slams both times. That's what Mr. Beltran would have done.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Both are impressive --- game sevens being game sevens --- but many definitions guys use for clutch would punch in "late and close" standandards that would keep those situations from being culled with the data.
Guest Iubitul Guests Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 What struck me was the similarity of the two situations, with the results also being similar..
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 No doubt. And I don't mean to demean those situations at all. But rather, I'm only trying to point out how hard it is to objectively wrap ourselves around the question. He's the King of the Sixth!
