The Mets turned the tables on the Reds, as today it was our bullpen that was virtually untouchable. Four Mets relievers combined to pitch 3.2 innings of one hit, shut out baseball this afternoon.

Meanwhile Cliff Floyd continued his resurgence with 2 hits including a solo home run. Even the struggling Carlos Delgado pitched in with a solo home run of his own. Unfortunately, Reds starter Bronson Arroyo was on his game and the Mets couldn't push across any other runs against him. Fortunately, he couldn't pitch all day and he had to be lifted after 8 innings of work. That was the opening the Mets offense needed.

In the 10th inning, aided by some shaky defense, the Mets launched the rally that decided the game. With one out in the inning, Xavier Nady hit a high fly to the warning track in right field that should have been the second out, but Chris Denorfia had a misadventure and both he and the ball fell to earth without ever formally meeting. Then Endy Chavez and Carlos Beltran hit consecutive 2 out doubles down the left field line. Then the only thing left was for Wagner to nail down the victory with an angst free 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the tenth.

The Mets take another series in another series. If they just keep winning series they should be fine. So celebrate with a stubby bottle of Red Cap Ale from the Brick Brewing Company of Waterloo, Ontario.

A lot of worthy candidates, please make the tough choice and cast your ballot.

I initailly had Glavine nominated for this game, but I felt like 9 hits and 3 walks allowed over the course of 6+ innings was not a masterful outing. Though he did ultimately allow only 2 runs (albeit with some help from Chad Bradford), I opted not to nominate him in this game. I felt the quartet of relief pitchers did too good a job not to at least be recognized with a nomination for their contributions.

I hate to have too many nominees for a single game. This game already had as many as any other this season. So, Tom fell by the wayside, though he was ultimately effective in limiting the Reds to only two runs . People are, of course, free to nominate Glavine (or any other Mets they deem worthy) as a write in candidate for the POTG.

I almost gave my beer to Bradford for getting out of that jam. But, ultimately, I gave it to Cliff for the Ka-Boom.
