Guest ABG Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 And they just had a teaser indicating that "One of the Mets major stars is/could be on the verge of getting dealt."Huh?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Is Zambrano a "major star?"
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 [wild speculation]Cliff Floyd?!? For Dontrelle Willis?!? Calling up Milledge?[/wild speculation]
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Cornelius is the most dealable, but it's not going to be for Willis. A money-hogging veteran starter more likely, or an established secondbaseman. The only other one that could be spun as a "major star" that seems like they could be dealt would be Tom Glavine.
Guest ABG Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I still haven't seen anything. They went right into Hernandez after the break, which would've been a logical segway. I can't believe the bastards have sucked me into watching Sportscenter, which I despise.
Guest KC Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 How many major stars do the Mets have beside Pedro and Delgado? No one is taking Beltran off our hands (not an endorsement of that on4/24). Floyd is kinda a major star, but doesn't seem all that attractive.I put on the tube - nothing.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I think we need an All-Purpose Keith's-Big-Mouth Thread.Network calls Hernandez's remarks 'inappropriate'Associated PressNEW YORK -- Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez was reprimanded by the team's television network for "inappropriate" remarks during a broadcast about a female member of San Diego's training staff.http://www.espn.go.com/photo/2006/0423/mlb_a_hernandez_65.jpgHernandez, a former MVP first baseman, said women "don't belong in the dugout" when he spotted 33-year-old Kelly Calabrese, the Padres' full-time massage therapist, high-fiving Mike Piazza in the dugout after he hit a home run during the team's 8-1 loss to New York on Saturday in San Diego. After Hernandez found out later in the broadcast that Calabrese was with the Padres' training staff, he repeated that she shouldn't have been there."I won't say that women belong in the kitchen, but they don't belong in the dugout," he said.Hernandez, a former Mets star, then laughed and said: "You know I am only teasing. I love you gals out there -- always have.""Keith Hernandez made inappropriate comments regarding the presence of a female massage therapist of the San Diego Padres who was in the dugout," SportsNet New York said in a statement Monday. "We immediately addressed the issue with Keith and reprimanded him, and he publicly apologized during Sunday's game."Hernandez said Sunday that he was sorry if he offended anyone. He also said that baseball's rulebook allowed only the head trainer and assistant trainer in the dugout. But a Major League Baseball memo previously sent to all clubs said that in addition to the two trainers, one member of the conditioning staff was permitted in the dugout during games. After Hernandez's remarks, MLB called the Padres and verified that, indeed, Calabrese was allowed.Calabrese said Sunday that she was flabbergasted by Hernandez's comments."It's a little shocking but you know what -- it happens," she said. "He not only discredited me as a person, but he discredited women."

Guest KC Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 37 minutes into the broadcast and they tease us again. Unfunkingbelievable.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I wish they'd give us more Mel Kiper Junior. And more commercials promoting Sportscenter. And more commercials promoting Sportscenter starring Mel Kiper Junior.
Guest KC Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Dontrelle for Wright reportedly rejected ... yawn.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Mets reject Willis for Wright proposal, as reported five years ago in Newsday, or so it seems.
Guest ABG Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I hadn't heard the Wright for Willis thing. Such is life when you're in San Antonio for a conference. Had I heard it, probably wouldn't have posted this on the assumption it was the same rumor.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 C'mon. I left a joke up on a tee for you guys: Who's gonna kick that field goal?

Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 The Mets would be crazy to trade Wright for Willis. Even if they threw in Cabrera. It's no story at all.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 'WHO THE FUCK IS MEL KIPER JR?'That SportsCenter tease was a typical ESPN P.O.S.They take a piece from a newspaper (at least they acknowledged where they got it from which they don't always do) that's already a day old (although they said it ran today) and talk about it as if it's current news (even though the piece said the "deal" was briefly proposed then rejected weeks ago)Had this actually been true, of course, they would have reported it as; ESPN has learned!!!! ...I had a feeling that that was what they were teasing but of course fell for it anyway.
