Curious how this affects, if at all, the alleged axis of evil: white-haired veteran baseball men Al Goldis and Livesley.

Sounds like they have been removed from direct scouting and player evaluation responsibilities.

]BRYAN LAMBE '69
Wrestling

Lambe made his mark at Oneonta in the sport of wrestling. During his three year career he was 28-1 in dual meet competition while earning All-SUNYAC honors every year including being the champion in 1967. In 1967 and 1968 he was an All-American at 152 lbs. with a fourth place and fifth place finish respectively. In 1966 and 1967 he was the champion and outstanding wrestler at the C.W. Post Christmas Tournament.

Lambe grew up in East Meadow, N.Y. and received his bachelor's degree in education in January of 1969. He spent his first post-Oneonta year as a math teacher and High School wrestling coach in the Syosset (NY) School District before being invited to tryout for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball. From 1970 to 1976 he was a player in the Detroit Tigers minor league system before working as a coach. In 1980 he took a job with the Major League Scouting Bureau and stayed until 1985 when he took his current position as a scout with the Texas Ranger Baseball Club.

Nethery has been with the Mets about a year, so crack open your media guides. His hiring was overshadowed last year, as it was announced along with the hiring of Jerry Krause.

http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/images/I48987-2004Sep24Adam Wogan came over from the Nats, where he had been when the team was called the Expos, wo presumably Omar knows his work. He juggled affiliates wtih the ExpoNats, which must've been thankless work. He also cut a lot of the minor league managers for the team just before getting axed himself by Jim Bowdon.

Here's an interview with him that'll cost you $12.95.

From Heyman today in Newsday..

Omar's real weakness

This continuing dialogue about Minaya favoring Latino players is a bunch of hot air. If there's a quibble here about Minaya's personnel procurement, it's in some front-office hires. Minaya almost exclusively hires close friends, even when others are better equipped.

Sometimes there can be no argument, such as when he hires his mentor, Sandy Johnson, or longtime scout Bryan Lambe. But Minaya installed a buddy as scouting director last year, and the Mets' draft - after No. 1 pick Mike Pelfrey - has been described as disastrous by competitors and Mets people alike. Minaya has since replaced this fellow.

ok - IIRC, this "hispanic only" bit was started up in the media, and now they are calling Mets fans racists for talking about it....

Am I missing something here?

I've missed this. Isn't it too early to tell?

Has Pelfrey appeared anywhere yet?

Was it started by the media, or by WFAN callers?

Probably WFAN callers fanned by WFAN air hosts.

Meanwhile...

Thee Norfolk Tides and their parent club, the New York Mets, have announced the Tides' field staff for the 2006 season. 2005 Minor League Manager of the Year Ken Oberkfell will return to manage the club in 2006, while Howard Johnson will return as hitting coach and Randy Niemann will serve as pitching coach. Brian Chicklo will return to the team as the head trainer, and Kenny Coward will return as the strength and conditioning coach.

]Kenny Coward will return as the strength and conditioning coach.

With a name like that he better be into strength and conditioning.

Nethery was with the Braves from 1991 to 2004. Them's good years to have been associated with the Braves.
