Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 This would take a bit if financial commitment from a notoriously cheapskate organization in order to really work, but if Stienbrenner is stupid enough to fire Torre, and with Stottlemyre definately leaving and Cashman most likely leaving, how about all three of them going to the Devil Rays together??Zimmer is already there. . . There is already somewhat of a rivalry. . . The Tampa thing is perfect with the "2nd front office" for the Yankees (and the one that seemingly is more in Stienbrenner's favor) there. . . You have the "big spenders" vs "frugal upstarts" thing going (although, once again, The Devil Rays cannot be quite as obscenely cheap as they have been). . .That, from a dramatic standpoint, is soooo juicy that Selig should even get involved as much as he can in order to make it happen IMO.

Guest KC Guests Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Why would firing Torre be stupid? Yanks really haven't cut it for years withthe amount of money they spend - it's approaching a billion dollars sincethey beat the Mets in 2000. Why would Torre want to go to Tampa Bay after having what many peoplewould think of as baseball's dream for so long?I still watch the video of Pedro dismissing Zimmer to the ground and laugh.Selig should stay away from juicy and just retire already.
Guest cleonjones11 Guests Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 How about the Yankees do the Tampa thing and we swap Beltran to TB ...closer to home for him...and Take MayRod...I think he would fit in as a Met!

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 With my connection in the Tampa Bay ownership group, I could try to make it happen.
