Reports are that Al Leiter has a "greater than 50-50" chance of retiring. Thoughts, anyone? I'll post my thoughts later, as I have to collect them.

No thoughts. Old pitcher, best years behind him. Why shouldn't he retire?

Because there's still a remote chance somebody will offer him a starting pitcher's salary for next year. I'd feel bad for the fans of whatever team would do that, but it wouldn't surprise me if Leiter tests the market before making a decision.

Seems like it's just about the end of the line for Leiter. But while he wasn't outstanding in the brief time he was with the Yankees this season he did everything that was asked of him and had one excellent start against the Red Sox when that was very much needed. I've always liked Leiter and I'm glad that he was with the Yankees, even if it was just for a bit this season. It would seem fitting that he would retire after coming back to the organization where he got his start.

I wouldn't be shocked if he's a situational lefty out of the pen for the Yankees next year, but I think retirement is the right move. He can either start his political career or get a nice job on YES or SNY.

i was saying that just last week, there are plenty of opportunities open to Leiter inside and outside of baseball, he's not one of those player who is gonna retire and have nothing to do ::coughrickeycough:: everyone loves the guy, i'm sure there are several job in the game that are his for the asking. there is no need to keep trying to play, especially as some kind of lefty-specialist, when his skills have declinedso much and he already has a ring.
