i now have wireless access at school...so i'll be getting less work done and you'll be hearing more from me, this is truly a lose-lose situation.

Problem number one with intertnet fora --- they're dominated by people not employed or avoiding work.

Which doesn't make them (or us, or me) bad contributors. Just funny to argue big questions among people that aren't exactly a populatoin of world beaters, in general.

We're not slackers. We're multi-taskers!

i kind of wonder if in some companies the amount of extra work produced by the internet isn't completely offset by the extra time spent bullshitting as a result of internet access.

When I owned an ISP, I was amazed at some of the tech support calls we got from business accounts.

Me: What problem are you having?
Customer: The Internet isn't working.
Me: What page are you trying to look at?
Customer: Why do you need that information?
Me: So I can diagnose the problem you're having

After a few rounds of asking if I really needed to know, the customer would give me some whacko website, usually porn. And I'm wondering why he's doing that at work and why his boss isn't all over his ass.

We closed our business in 2001. I don't hink it's changed any now that people use DSL and cable instead of dial-up. Okay, I take that back, with high-speed access, it's probably gotten worse.

People have been goofing off at work since the cows left and came back
home. I guess it depends on your addict level, but I manage to keep up with
the stuff I want to and still get my work done. I still say I spend less time on
the net during a work day than is spent yappin' before getting settled to
actually working in the morning, getting ready for lunch, having lunch, and
getting back to work from lunch, and the personal phone time that others
abuse. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. And I'm counting their internet
time now too, of course. Actually, now I getting pissed off.

I mean, really ... is it any different than having a magazine in a folder or a
newspaper folded in four where you can read it? Working on your checkbook,
while looking busy? People who worked before the internet can prolly fill in
a few more ... people have been goofing off at work since ....

Yup. Think of all the time being spent looking at those naughty pictures

We have internet access at work so we can see our own company website and also to keep us from going bonkers in between phone calls. Obviously though, there's a limit to what you should do with it.

My husband recently had to fire a guy for downloading (not just looking at) porn sites on a company computer where he works. Some people are just plain stupid.
