Q about basepath derring-do and derring-don't

Cameron led off the 8th with a double tonight, score tied. A single to right followed, and Acta held Cameron at 3rd, wisely.

But on that play, I'm wondering why Cameron didn't make as if to break for home. I'm not saying to try to score, just try to draw a throw home.

It's not as if there were any danger of having the rightfielder (Lane?) throw behind him. When Cameron was rounding third (very slowly) the ball was still in Lane's glove hand (or maybe he was transferring it) in short right field. Cameron could have safely gotten fifteen feet down the line at top speed before slamming on the brakes.

If he had done that, you can bet Lane wouldn;t have lobbed the ball into the infield as he did. He would have hurried the transfer, and thrown to home with great urgency, both of which sometimes result in botched plays (drops on the transfer, wild throw into the stands, etc.)

Can someone rationalize the advantages of not drawing throws? I've seen a lot of this lately, and I can't think of one.
