Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Mets go ahead on the infield-in single by Castritto.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 I send Minky there also.Worst that happens is that he's out and it's 1st & 3rd/2 outs - as opposed to 2nd & 3rd w/2 ... but with Reyes at 1st it's almost as good.Make THEM make the tough play.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Looked to me as if Minky missed the sign, not Anderson, who was halfway to third.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 In the useless info department Steve Phillips will be doing the Sunday Night Baseball game, Joe Morgan is in Cooperstown.A nice one,two ,three inning for the Mets.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Maybe all Beltran needed was home cookin'.I wish he didn't need four days before it worked, of course.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Let's kick this Springer guy's ass!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Howcome we've had two steals of third today, but neither time did the trailing runner advance?
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Hammerin' Cameron with an RBi single.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Beltran to 'Stros fans: "F--- You"Cammy to Met fans: "F--- You"Floyd to Oswald: "F--- You"It's just an F--- You kinda day.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Not warm enough to keep the Astros out of Hopeville, but the Mets win.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Don't forget Mientkiewicz's F___ You to everyone. He's been having a nice June & July around his benchings. . . .And Castro's looking like more and more of a decent Plan B for next year if we can't get a young catcher . . .
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Are the Mets a big draw or was this all about Beltran, this four game series drew 172,835, the most ever for the Astros.
Guest SwitchHitter Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 The Astros were also on the tail-end of a 7-game winning streak, which contributed some to the sell-outs. Also they had good promotions--dollar dogs on Thursday, Jose Cruz figurines on Saturday. But mostly it was about Beltran. I have never seen the Astros fans boo someone like that. Anytime the ball went anywhere near him, he was gettin' it.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 And he answered back today, the great thing is that Willie called him into the office today and told him he was thinking about sitting him down for the game, Beltran said he was fine and wanted to play...good job by both.

The last two...how on earth did the umps justify these calls? Do we know what the explanation was? How can the ump randomly call time out when a play is in progress?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 The 1st one is a case of obeying the letter of the law and throwing common sense out the window. Like BV said often; the rule book needs to be periodically reviewed and updated. That rule probably dates back to the days when fielders gloves were the size and shape of your kids' winter mittens and you couldn't be sure if it was a catch until you saw it in his hand.#2 - the bunt play was prolly just bad judgement: ie; ump thinks that he was NOT out of the box. Seems to me that the home ump needs to get help there, not sure why he didn't.#3 - Looked like the 1st base ump thought that the pitch in the dirt hit the batter on the foot (so did several of the announcers) and so he signaled for time out. Of course it's not HIS call there so that's where the screw up was. Problem is that once he calls 'Time' nothing which occurs afterward is valid.
