Diamond Club

So Friday night I will be attending my first game with Diamond Club passes, and I have literally no idea what that entails.

I assume it's a restaurant, but I'm looking for some advice on:

-Whether I should go--is it worth it? How are the prices, food and whatnot?
-Where is it located in the stadium?
-When does it open? Immediately after the gates?

I'd like to check it out, as I don't figure to go back anytime soon, so any advice is appreciated.

Dress is strictly formal. Don't make the same mistake I did.

In the past they insisted on jackets for men, but that was a zillion years ago. If you didn't have one, they'd make you wear an orange one.

Kase could tell you more specifics, although I think that there are guidelines printed on the Diamond Club passes.

You enter near Gate C - there's a separate Diamond Club entrance, and you take an elevator. The elevator lets you out at the Mets Hall of Fame, which is definitely worth a few minutes of your time.

It and the food were fine, nothing extradinary. We were with a group when I went so did a buffet thing. And the group was dressed all kinds of ways - so, while you prolly shouldn't go totally ragged, there's certainly no specific dress code. Not sure what Edgy's talking about there.

As mentioned, the entrance right near Gate C - which is essentially smack in the middle of the stadium; ie behind home plate



-When does it open? Immediately after the gates?

Something like that. Around 2 hours before game time.

There's a former Met seated with every party. I've had Elliot Maddox and Frank Lary. I figure that if I get Larry Elliot, I've got my name string completed.

You get complimentary Mets bath towels and a few lucky patrons take batting practice.

OK, no, but that's the way it should be.

The "Diamond Club" is a sports bar, more or less. There is no dress code that i'm aware of, but you could call to make sure. The menu is strictly "pub food". Its strictly a nachos and burger place, so stay away from anything fancy. Not too pricey, but more $$ than its quality warrants.

There are a few plaques, trophies and busts in the lobby... the "Mets Hall of Fame", such as it is. And a souvenir shop. There is another dining room where they do a buffet, but i've not been there.

Mr. Sage is talking about The Grill Room which is on the other side of the room from the actual Diamond Club. The D.C. is the formal dining room. If you want to eat in the Diamond Club as opposed to the Grill Room you should call today or tomorrow morning to make reservations just in case.

The Diamond Club has views of the field which the Grill Room does not.

Also up there are the two Mets World Series trophies, bronze busts of every member of the Mets Hall Of Fame and a souvenir shop (although the shop on the field level behind home plate is better)

If you're lucky you may actually see a Met. If you're really early sometimes you'll catch a current player or coach. Last time I was there I saw Keith Hernandez and Ted Robinson. I think they have to walk through the Grill Room to get to the broadcast booth.

OE: If you want my advice skip the Diamond Club. Go up there, check out the trophies and such. If the mood strikes get a burger or dog at the Grill Room (no reservations bnecessary but get there early). This way you can wear jerseys, hats whatever.

Time was you couldn't get a sniff of the place without a jacket and tie, even if you were a 6-year-old kid like I was back then.

IIRC, the wings are pretty good.

Grill is come as you are, I've sat at the bar and downed couple of brewskies through the years up there

Other side of the grill (opposite the lobby) is the entrance for the press row so chances are you might bump into a broadcaster or a scribe before, after (or even during) the game

The closet...err Hall of Fame Lobby is the busts, the WS Trophies, I think the 2000 NL Trophy might still be there, Al Leiter's Roberto Clemente Award is still up there as well as the two "Hall of Fame Style" plaques for Carter and Murphy

Also the walls are adorned with full color photos of all the Met Hall of Famers (be nice if their names were with them)

And there is a nice HD Wide Screen TV next to the gift shop (normal high scale gift shop, not like the full blown clubhouse shops on the field level)

Actually Diamond Club is the ritzy place, formal wear, ect Never really been there except to use the facilities (my way of checking it out) and it does have a view of the field, though there are plenty of TVs in The Grill to make up for lack of view (right behind the press box)
