metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 It's the Gerald Williams effect, Mint was on the post-game raving about the work he did today with Williams, I did notice during the game that Williams was chatting to guys a lot, could be he was just catching up but you never know.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 The Mets are 8-2 in Benson's starts...I wonder why that is, any reasons why Kris gets all the run support?

Guest cooby Guests Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Hey, Pat Burrell homered; that never happens. At least this time it did not beat the Mets
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I suspect Matsui would have gotten it for initially angling toward the ball instead of the bag on the potential DP grounder to Reyes in the ninth, as Anderson did, thus leading Reyes to take it himself rather than trying to lead a redirecting Anderson to the bag with a short toss. Also, is Thome really this cooked? Do you suspect Giambi Syndrome?
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Edgy DC wrote:...is Thome really this cooked? Do you suspect Giambi Syndrome?Interesting isn't it? Seems like guys aren't allowed to have bad years anymore without the 'Giambi Question' rearing its ugly head. What about Burnitz a few years back? Bad season or first year off the juice?Baerga (sorry cooby)? Alomar? Vaughn?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Well, keep in mind I'm speculating, not accusing. But obviously, this is the first year of a new regime, and therefore frames the quesiton in a way that didn't applay to Burnitz, Baerga, Alomar, and Vaughn?
Guest cooby Guests Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Edgy, do you think you could wait until the Mets are done playing the Phillies before you wake this sleeping giant named Jim Thome? I think it's kinda nice to not dread him for a change
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Yeah right its not like Pat the Bat is exactly napping you know? And I'm sorry if I came across as being sarcastic in my response to the Thome question. I wasn't. I really do find it interesting that that's what we all think when a slugger suddenly stops slugging. Its not just an 'off year' anymore.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 It's a product of the times soup, it sucks but that's the way it is.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Yeah, well, on one hand I feel dirty speculating. I don't fear Thome so much as Burrell and Abreu even when he's the Thome we know.Funny how when the Mets twice were unable to convert a good DP ball in the ninth, somebody in the group said, "This is interesting because it brings up Abreu, and that brings up the issue of 'ownage,' because that's what Abreu has on Looper -- 'ownage'."I did some scratching. The data set is pretty small, but telling. Maybe we should be fearing Abreu more than Burrell in the ninth.YearGABRH2B3BHRRBITBBBSOHbPSBCSSFAVGOBPSLGOpS2005221100114000000.500.5002.0002.5002004542300003100100.750.800.7501.5502003320000000100000.000.333.000.3332002211000000100000.000.500.000.5002001754300239110100.600.6671.8002.4672000110000000010000.000.000.000.00019993222001150000001.0001.0002.5003.500Total2317109004521420200.529.6191.2351.854
Guest cooby Guests Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I think I saw Thome mouth the words "Take that, Train Boy" as he was rounding third base
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 And I'm not shitting here but when Piazza had his second to last AB Bill Webb cut to Wagner in the Philly bullpen and I swear I saw him mouth to the guy next to him...fuck PiazzaCooy I thought of your lament when Thome homered.
Guest Spacemans Bong Guests Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Can we get some consistency here? Jesus. This team is easily good enough to lead the division.
