Man, the Windy City is taking it to a whole new level today. 5 home runs through 6.2 innings so far in what promised to be a pitcher's duel--Greg Maddux versus A.J. Burnett.

Florida leads it 15-5, with dingers by Cabrera, Delgado, Encarnacion, Castillo & Burnitz.

The following have doubles:
Lowell (2)
Pierre
Cabrera
LoDuca
Hollandswoth.

27 hits in the game, with 11 of them going for extra bases.

Craziness.

And thank you, Messrs. Cabrera and Lowell, for saving my fantasy team from oblivion this week:

6-11, 2 1B, 3 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 4 R, 2 KO -- 18 pts

Still a long uphill climb this week thanks to Hudson and Glavine, but we'll get there.

Texas beats Atlanta (Braves starting 6 rookies due to injuries, etc) 9-5 as they smack around young Kyle Davis (who smacked us around).

Boston beats Cincy, Bal'mer tops Houston
... which is good because: Jason Giambi became a TRUE YANKEE tonight (may not be again tomorrow, stay tuned for further developments).

The Pirates actually got rooked on this one; Yanx down by one in the 9th, Sheff smacks one towards the middle w/1out-1 on. Ball ricochets off Joe Table's leg over to Jack Wilson at SS, he flips to 2nd who relays it to 1st just in time to nip Sheff and end the game ... except that he was called safe. Given another chance, A-Rod singled then Posada doubled to tie it up (A-Rod thrown out at plate trying to win it ... and he actually tried to ram the catcher instead of slapping him). Giambi then HR'd in the 10th.

Nationals up 1-0 in the 7th w/Angels. Bartolo Colon hooked up in a duel with the recently acquired Ryan Drese who's tossing a 1-hitter for Washington.

Phils down 3-1 in the 6th in Seattle

And they're in the 9th in Anaheim/LA/Orange County - still 1-Zip Nat'ls

Drese out after 8 IPs, 2 hits, 3 BBs of shutout ball.
Cordero their closer in

Erstad - 1B
Vlad - BB
Anderson - 1B (bags loaded)

Finely batting w/the sacks drunk -- STRIKE 3

1 out; Benji Molina up -- Fly to CF, too shallow to tag

2 outs; Dallas McPherson as the last gasp -- STRIKE 3

frayed Knot the E-Rod play at the plate was so lame, he tried to ram the catcher and then fell over the ump..it was a terrible play by him to even try to score, he ws out at home by at least 8 to 10 feet..

Yes, going home was the wrong move (he stopped, then started again as the relay was bobbled) but at least when he reached the catcher he tried to knock him over instead of hitting him w/his purse.

Here is what I don't understand, I saw the Gimabi walk off bomb to win the game, then the YES crew showed the team at home, E-Rod it seemed to me was looking for people to hug and slap but he was outside the home plate crowd, not part of the clique, trying way too hard to hug and back slap mates...very weird, then in the dugout he was slapping Jeters ass several times froom behind and Jeter just looked at him..
