Memories of Manny Aybar

On opening day, Norrin/Vic Sage dubbed him Fubar. And, sadly, the name was fitting.

There's that, as well as pitching performances that just meld into one generally poor memory.

I predict this will be a short thread.

I had been hoping he would get called "Goofy" or "Guillermo" or something, just so we could call him "G. Aybar" but that, like so much else with him, never happened.

I remember that I didn't like him very much.

The missing "G" before Aybar is like the 18 that should have been Dan Wheeler's #. I'll miss the comic relief more than their middle relief.

One of those guys with good stuff and poor results. When I think of him, I think of a 93-mph pitch, hit hard, that gets by Floyd in left and goes for a double.

Isn't it weird that in the first game of the year he was inserted to protect a lead for Pedro? (and despite allowing a run, he did?) I figured WWSB initially had plans to use him more frequently and in bigger spots than he ultimately did.

In fact, coming out of ST I had no idea what WWSB would do with the pen. If Roberto Hernandez had become the 5th inning mopup man it wouldn't have surprised me in the least.

Good luck Manny!
