I have no problem with the Mets on the pitching side.

Batting-wise, they are philosophically misguided.

Regarding the pitching, I should have included Peralta with Mclean and Holmes as being effective starters.  However, each of them have trouble getting through a line up a third time.  They often cruise through 4-5 innings, then suddenly they fall apart.  They either throw strikes or they start getting hit hard.  Senga looked good for 2 starts, but since then has been horrible.  He has a pretty good fastball (particularly up in the zone) and a great "ghost fork", but he falls behind too much so that he can not effectively use his best pitch (the split finger).  His other pitches (cutter & slider) are not of good enough quality to get people out regularly.  Peterson and Manaea have pitched themselves into being long men in the bullpen due to ineffectiveness.

The bullpen (outside of Williams) have for the most part performed reasonably well.

I will admit, that it is difficult for the pitching staff to continually work with no margin for error as a result of the Mets offense being so inept and anemic.

I am hopeful the Mets move on from Mendoza

I believe Stearns is hesitant because he believes 100% of the pressure will be on himself

I think issues of a third time through a lineup are greatly exaggerated.

1) Give a guy a lead, and he has leverage to work with — a margin for error as the later innings start coming around.
2) Trouble the third time automatically implies success-success-success to that point.
3) Relievers are there to help.

Beyond that, the data that goes into third-time-through-the-lineup measurements is queered by its very nature.
