Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Whilst we slept and/or did other shit last night ... Braves lost: 6-2 at LAA w/Sale on the mound Marlins lost: shut out at home 2-0 by Reds Phils won: 6-4 at SFG Nats won: 9-6 at home vs StL And in non-NLE news: Willlllson Contreras (he's the the one currently with BOS after stints with the Cubs & Cards if you, like I do, have trouble keeping them straight) got hit by a pitch vs Milwaukee last night ... and he wasn't happy about it. Now he gets hit a lot [131 career, second only to Starling Marte among active players*] but a whopping 24 of those have come from a Brewer pitcher [nearly twice as many as from any other club: 14 ea from Reds & Pirates] and six times by yesterday's pitcher Brandon Woodruff alone. So if it happens again, he said in post-game comments, he's going to "take one of them out". The fun part of all this is that his younger brother William is, and has been, the Brewer catcher for a chunk of these HBPs including the one last night. So as they used to say prior to remotes and TiVo: 'Don't touch that dial' * Pete is 8th, Nimmo 13th, McNeil 14th
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Phils fell to .500 this afternoon (6-6) after getting shut out by the Giants for the second game in a row (after winning the first of the series). And, at a negative 15 run differential (42 RS / 57 RA) they're fortunate to be that good . The Braves finished up their series in Anaheim by winning the rubber game today and will slip by us into 1st place in the division. And the Pirates did make official the nine-year contract with #1 overall prospect Konnor Griffin today, five games into his ML career. Those kinds of moves work out if they get Ronald Acuna type of production. Not so much if he turns into the second coming of Scott Kingery. whippoorwill 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 I've only caught a few scattered innings of the Yanx/Rays series in Tampa this weekend so it took me a while before it hit me that the Rays are back in Tropicana Field after spending all of 2025 at George M Steinbrenner filed on the Tampa side of the bay after a tropical storm damaged the structure and shredded the roof. And it looked like the roof was back in the brief glimpses I did get. Or maybe it's just a big Hefty bag they stretched over it temporarily.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 If it makes anyone feel better the Yanx have now also lost five straight as they got swept over the weekend by Tampa. Today they got a 2R 9th inning HR from Judge which was enough to lose the game by one. So tonight is the first NBC Sunday Night GotW (the first two weeks they farmed it out to their 'PEACOCK' channel). And 1/2 inning in it's apparent their plan is to have as many people saying as many words as possible. So if you're one of those hoping for many even a 1/4 second of air in between lots of verbiage ... you're going to be disappointed. Cleveland and Atlanta are tonight's combatants and so It's the p-b-p guy (?) plus ex Indian/Guardian Corey Kluber, ex-Brave Andruw Jones (who set the record for 'ummmmms' in one paragraph in top-1) in the booth with ex-Indian/Guardian C.C Sabathia in a raised chair somewhere near one of the dugouts because of course you need a fourth competing voice. Not sure if the plan is to have a revolving set of ex-players in the booth depending on which teams are playing that night or if there will actually be a set crew. Couldn't tell you as I'm currently watching the game muted while I listen to music (right now George is singing 'Within You and Without You').
