Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2025 Posted December 24, 2025 The Mets signed David Stearns' favorite kind of reliever, a bad one, inking 4-year vet Mike Baumann to a deal; whether it's a big league deal or a minor league one is unknown. He didn't pitch in the majors in 2025 and owns a career 4.95 ERA, 83 ERA+ and 1.452 WHIP, which is actually a little low by Stearns' standards. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/12/mets-to-sign-mike-baumann.html

He should try a different formula.Later
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2025 Posted December 24, 2025 And I'm hoping for Bellinger or Tucker, I must be nutsIn a couple of years Stearns could be as popular as Mussolini
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 24, 2025 Posted December 24, 2025 Well, you are probably not nuts, but it is certainly wrong to think this has anything to do with signing or not signing Tucker or Bellinger.I do not know why this performative misery over fringe signings occurs year after year after year. We all know how baseball works. We all know that every team signs numerous fringe players in the offseason.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2025 Author Posted December 24, 2025 I think the performative misery exists because these are supposed to be fringe players, but for some reason the Mets love to plug them into major roles and we all suffer as a result. Remember when it was something like Scott Rice, Carlos Torres and Greg Burke taking up a lot of bullpen space? These guys should be 1-2 game fill-ins, not cogs. But they always become cogs.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2025 Posted December 24, 2025 Interesting. They do seem to take on a life of their own at times
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 25, 2025 Posted December 25, 2025 But they always become cogs. No, they do not.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 Bowzer, amazingly, appeared in the bigs for five different teams in 2024. Five! One sixth of MLB in a single season! No wonder he went to Japan.
