Derek Falvey Set To Join Mets' Front Office In Key Role, Reuniting With David Stearns

For those hoping for David Stearns being fired this offseason, that does not figure to be in the New York Mets' plans.

A day after the Mets made Andy Green their full-time manager with a three-year contract, Stearns is reportedly adding an old friend to his front office. That would be Derek Falvey, the former Minnesota Twins president of baseball operations who is expected to have a significant role under Stearns as he joins the Mets, according to The Athletic.

Falvey and the Twins mutually agreed to part ways in January after the team had a massive sell-off at last year's trade deadline and were set to have a rebuilding season this year.

It is not yet known what Falvey's exact title will be. Stearns, the Mets' president of baseball operations, and Falvey worked together in the Cleveland Guardians' front office.

The Twins made the postseason four times under Falvey, who took over the Minnesota front office after the  2016 season. That included winning the Twins' first postseason series in 21 years in 2023. But a change in the Pohlad family ownership structure led to his departure as Tom Pohlad and Falvey had different ideas how to proceed.
