Jose Chirinos has been steady since being promoted to High-A Brooklyn in early June. On Saturday, the right-hander from Venezuela was stellar.

He turned in his longest outing of the season, 6 2/3 innings, as he blanked Jersey Shore on two hits. He walked none and struck out five in a no-decision. As always, efficiency was the key: he threw 54 of his 82 pitches for strikes.

The 21-year-old has now worked at least five innings in nine of his 12 starts for Brooklyn, which is significant in a time of bullpenning and piggybacking. He went six innings twice for Single-A St. Lucie in May. Overall, he is up to 101 1/3 innings over 21 games (19 starts). He sports a 3.38 ERA (4.09 RA/9), 1.23 WHIP and 25.6 percent strikeout rate.

The Cyclones won 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Elsewhere in the organization . . .

Syracuse edged Jacksonville 4-3. MJ Melendez’s solo home run in the eighth inning was the difference. Ronny Mauricio and Christopher Morel also homered.

Binghamton got back on track with a 14-3 rout of Portland. Jefferson Rojas drove in two runs, and Mitch Voit reached base five times one night after the Rumble Ponies’ winning streak ended at 10.

St. Lucie lost 3-1 to Jupiter. Aiden Robbins continued to shine at the start of his pro career as he homered for the Mets’ lone run.

DSL Mets Blue lost 11-4 to the DSL NYY Yankees. Adrian De La Rosa drove in three runs. DSL Mets Orange lost 2-1 in eight innings to the DSL Nationals. Mets starter Anderson Ozuna pitched five scoreless innings.

Syracuse’s M, M & M Boys Do Their Thing

Melendez, Morel and Mauricio accounted for the Mets’ scoring with their long balls. Mauricio slammed a two-run homer in the first to give Syracuse a quick lead. Morel hit a solo shot in the fourth to make it 3-1. He has 12 homers in 31 games for the Mets as he tries to slug his way back to The Show. Mauricio and Melendez have 14 each.

Zack Mack earned the win by getting the final two outs of the seventh, setting the stage for Melendez’s go-ahead homer. Devenski struck out four as he closed out the win.

Rumble Ponies Get . . . Right Back On The Horse

Binghamton resumed normal operations as they battered the Sea Dogs. As has been the case during their hot streak, they opened the scoring with five runs in the third. Kevin Parada hit his third home run of the season for a 1-0 lead. After that, Émilien Pitre lifted a sacrifice fly, Rojas drove in a run with a single, and Billy Amick hit a two-run homer. It was Amick's seventh with Binghamton and his 30th overall.

They settled matters with four runs in the sixth. Pitre singled in two, Jacob Reimer walked with the bases loaded, and Amick drove in a run with a fielder’s choice grounder.

Voit continued to be an on-base machine out of the leadoff spot. He had two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch.

Gabe Davis started and allowed an unearned run over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three. Carlos Guzman threw a scoreless seventh and eighth. That earned him the win via scorer’s discretion.

Brooklyn Scratches Out Go-Ahead Run Late

The Cyclones manufactured their run with the help of a leaky defense by Jersey Shore. Jamari Baylor led off with an infield hit, and Antonio Jimenez followed with a grounder to short. The throw to second was wild, and Baylor advanced to third. Chase Meggers then hit a grounder to second. Baylor broke for the plate on the contact play, and he easily beat the throw home.

Juan Arnaud was credited with the win. He got the last out in the eighth and then worked a scoreless ninth. Aidan Smith had two of Brooklyn’s five hits.

Robbins A Bright Spot For St. Lucie

Robbins’ solo shot in the sixth cut the Mets’ deficit to 3-1. Jupiter had gone ahead with a run in the second and two in the third off starter Joel Lara. The Mets’ third-round pick in this year’s draft is slashing .325/.413/.425 after 11 professional games. He also has three stolen bases after a theft Saturday.

The Mets got the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth, but Vladi Gomez and Dylan Carey struck out to end the game.
