Series Breakdown/Highlights

Brewers Series: Coming off a series win against the Phillies, the Mets took on one of the top teams in the NL.

The Mets opened their road trip with a tough loss as the Brewers broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. Freddy Peralta struggled against his former team, allowing seven earned runs in 5.1 innings, while Milwaukee capitalized on nearly every scoring opportunity. Francisco Lindor and Jorge Polanco each drove in a run, and the Mets managed just three runs despite putting traffic on the bases throughout the night. The loss spoiled Peralta's return to Milwaukee and snapped New York's momentum from its series win over Philadelphia. 

The Mets bounced back behind another outstanding outing from rookie Zac Thornton, who earned his first career victory with six scoreless innings. Jared Young got New York on the board with a solo homer, while Carson Benge delivered a two-run double in the fifth to provide breathing room. Luis Robert Jr. added a towering 451-foot home run in the eighth—his first hit since returning from a lengthy injury absence—as the bullpen completed a four-hit shutout.

The Mets were unable to secure the series victory as Milwaukee rallied late with a four-run ninth inning to put the final game away. Christian Scott kept New York in the contest through six innings, but the Brewers' offense eventually broke through against the bullpen. The Mets collected eight hits and scored twice in the ninth to make the final score more respectable, but Milwaukee's late offensive explosion prevented New York from leaving Wisconsin with a series win.

Dodgers Series: The Mets came home for their first home series post-All-Star-Break to take on the vaunted Dodgers.

The Dodgers spoiled the Mets' return home despite another strong pitching performance from Sean Manaea. Luis Robert Jr. gave New York an early lead with a solo homer, but Los Angeles answered with sacrifice flies from Miguel Rojas and Shohei Ohtani before Kyle Tucker's two-run homer in the eighth created separation. Francisco Alvarez homered in the bottom of the eighth to cut the deficit to two, but Tanner Scott closed the door. The Mets also lost Juan Soto to left calf soreness during the game, adding another concern beyond the loss. 

The Mets' offense struggled once again in the next game against one of baseball's deepest pitching staffs, managing just two runs while the Dodgers took control with timely hitting. Los Angeles continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities late in the game, while New York failed to string together enough offense despite several chances with runners aboard. The defeat guaranteed another series loss against the National League West leaders. 

The Mets salvaged the finale in convincing fashion, erupting for eight runs behind timely power hitting. Tyrone Taylor's three-run homer highlighted a big offensive afternoon, while the Mets' lineup consistently pressured Dodgers pitching throughout the game. New York avoided the sweep by collecting one of its most complete offensive performances of the second half, finishing the week on a positive note with an 8-3 victory.
