The Giants have had a terrible dumpster fire of a Pride Day "celebration."

The object lesson should be that it enough to ask a team to wear a city's name on their jersey and players being expected to wear and represent more than that can seem and get framed as coercive even though very reasonable agreements have been made between the league and the Player's Association. 

I do not claim membership to any gender-non-conforming community, but I think it would mean more to me if a team celebrated Pride Day by inviting and graciously hosting and celebrating my community, with whatever players or former players or organization members making whatever gestures of solidarity they were willing to stand by, rather than pressing the whole team to wear uniforms in a broad statement that we can certainly suspect or even know made many of them grind their teeth.

That's speculation.  I don't know.

Anyhow, the stupid culture wars have players posing as and being framed as Christian martyrs, in the sort of stupid skirmishes that have the likes of desperate self-promoters like Rob Schneider jumping in.

Huff's comments in response, though, are really low, and unfit to reprint here.  But he insists that Buster Posey is with him all the way.

While I appreciate the various gestures I think it’s time to stop having uniforms as posters for breast cancer, vets awareness, pride nights, mothers/Father’s Day, etc etc   
That stuff is all good but making a person wear gear to spread awareness of something we’re already aware of is annoying  

 

just my two cents. Players have personal thoughts too and probably would rather keep them to themselves

The EPL stopped its mandatory Pride wearing campaign and association with Stonewall,  they used to have captains wearing rainbow arm bands , players wearing laces etc , similar to here it became a flash point with some players not wanting anything to do with it 

 

Oh and yes ,Huff"s comments are despicable, not surprising from him though
