On the bright side, Bo Bichette's season average is now over .250.

But as the team's hitting improves, their pitching is tanking. Over the past 7 days, they're hitting .261/.325/.420 and over the past 14 days, they're hitting .246/.325/.413. Which are both far better than their season totals (.231/.298/.372).

However, their pitching over the past 7 days (excluding today)  has posted a 6.49 ERA; over the past 14 days, it is 5.78. Their mark on the year is 4.14

Cubs get two on in top 1 without getting a ball out of the infield. But two outs now., so can Manaea avoid the two-out NYM ins?

oe: And he does!! Took him a million pitches [three full counts in five batters] but he escaped unscathed otherwise.

Nice shot by Ewing, btw, and he also drove two to the warning track in the early game. Just hope these aren't signs of him getting too HR happy.

It's gotten to the point where they can never make just ONE mistake, but instead wind up making two or three in a row. As a result there have been very few one run innings against and a while lotta crooked numbers.

And here the Cubs have three in, have knocked out the pitcher, still have no one out, and haven't hit a ball solidly all inning.

Manaea is yanked in the fourth, but he is, like, fourth or fifth in line for what went wrong this inning.

In the previous eight games [CIN x 3, PHI x 3, CHC x 2, so not including this ongoing contest] the Mets have given up runs in 24 different innings. 8 of those were one run innings (not surprisingly, these all came in the two NYM wins).

In the other 15 innings where the opposition scored they scored at least twice for a total of 60 runs. There were five 2 run innings, five 3 run innings, two 4 run innings, also one 5-spot, one 6-spot, and an eight run frame.

Don't let it get you down, Ewing.

Youse need to bat leadoff, and Imanaga needs to get dinged for that move.

I was just about to type 'and yet again another inning with two runners on despite nothing even resembling hard contact' when an inning-ending GiDP occurs.

Torrens for Baty is interesting, but Luis does tend to make contact and he can't hit into a GiDP

... and he takes a walk.

It's like they invent a different way to screw up on a daily basis.

5 errors

Yes no one really gets help accountable

Remember when improving the "run prevention" through improved defense was a primary objective last off season?  Not looking very good, particularly tonight.

5 infield errors and a passed ball and they still have to play the 9th inning.
