I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember it fondly.  I learned how to trap a cross with my butt from this film.

On my list of great soccer films and great 80s coming-of-age films, but again, it's been a while.

While the US may never catch up to the UK in men's football, we were way ahead of them in the women's game.  I had second cousins from the UK who wet their pants back in 1980 at the idea that we even let girl's play, let alone encouraged it.  So I imagine a UK boy in 1980 losing his spot on the team to a girl was comedy gold to British audiences.

Stands out also among 1980's films about girls invading boy's teams — Blue Skies Again, Hockey Night, Quarterback Princess, among others.

HBO, kept from showing R-Rated fare before 8:00 PM, showed a lot of girls-on-boys-teams films.
