roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Lindor singles, gets thrown out stealing. . Isn't there a rule against that?
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 The opposition seems to be catching on to the Mets breaking early for second. Catchers may not be throwing out Mets runners, but increasingly more frequently pitchers are hanging them out to dry for easy outs.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Tong maintains no hitter thru 1 and 1/3!!!

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Pete didn't like that HBP
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Nimmo with the sac fly to LF for the Mets first run. Singer plunks Pete to reload the bases. McNeil promptly grounds out to end the inning.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Tong hung a fastball HR RedsNot so easy Mr Cannon tonight
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Tong gets taken yard again to rebuild the Reds lead to 3-1.Tong learning, he's not in Syracuse anymore. If you just throw fastballs, MLB hitters will eventually catch up to it, no matter how hard you throw.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Vientos chasing and flailing. Step backwards on that whiffs at bat
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Torrens guns down Elle Cruz to end the 3rd.I can't recall a catcher as adept at throwing out runners attempting to steal as Torrens has been the past 2 years. Ivan "Pudge" Rodrigues was damn good, as was Yadier Molina. I can't think of anyone else that rivals the quick release with a strong and accurate throw that Torrens has displayed since coming to the Mets.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Author Posted September 6, 2025 Three BOOM BOOMS now of The Tonger.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 It's all gone tong shaped
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Lindor gunned down for the second time today. This time Trevino (the catcher) threw him out by 5 feet trying to steal third. I think he was truly irritating Singer with his jockeying off second. He should have stayed there and given Soto a chance to drive him in when the pitcher was being distracted.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Singer hit Alonso last at bat. This time, Alonso says, "take that" and hits a line shot to right center for a double off Singer.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Singer had Vientos flailing away at sliders off the plate in his last at bat. This at bat he throws Vientos 5-6 straight sliders away. This time, Vientos just watches them and draws the walk. Unfortunately, Baty chased the slider out of the strike zone to strike out and end the inning.Tong on for the 6th inning.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 That second steal attempt by Lindor wasn't smart.Tong certainly done for the night now. Only three hits allowed, but four runs on those three.Battle of the bullpens for the 7th, 8th, 9th.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Keith comments that Jared Young has "good power" less than a second before he hits a no doubter to right field.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 My guess is maybe someone spoke to Tong before the game about throwing early strikes, getting ahead of hitters, and the Reds hit a few of those strikes out of the yard. That's what happens when you throw MLB hitters strikes. They belt them sometimes. Still better than walking the world, pitching from behind in the count all night long, and throwing 90 pitches by the fifth inning. If the Mets had scored 9 runs by now, we'd say Tong was throwing a great game.
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 I don't think Stanek is helping.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 The expression used to be "a fireman who brings a full can of gasoline."
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Tong showed good resolve in the face of some adversity. Unfortunately, he got a lesson on the importance of location and mixing in his pitches. The Reds hitters seemed to be sitting on the high fastball. Once Tong started mixing in his change up and at least showing them the curve, he seemed to throw the Reds hitters off. Meanwhile, Stanek is doing his Helsley impersonation.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 The bullpen is offering no relief tonight.
